This part of the poem displays how the woman who seems to seduce him in the poem makes it so seductive that he doesn’t believe that it is real. He later realize he has unknowingly become trapped in her web and has been discarded. He is now just a pawn in a game he would have the upper hand on because of his status. This shows that while women were politically and socially powerless, they had a great power over men.
