Of Samson I will say no more; but gain
A warning from his story, old and plain:
Men should keep counsel and not tell their wives
Secrets that it concerns them to retain,
Touching the safety of their limbs and lives.
The Canterbury Tales: The Monk’s Tale, Geoffrey Chaucer, Page 192
The monk explicitly states that women are nothing but trouble. I can’t say if this is just because he is a monk or because he hasn’t been around many women, but its definitely an off base statement. He also has that women are gossips, which is probably true, but this is a stereotype since not all women are like that. It is clear that he as been hurt by a women to go far as to tell men to not trust their wife. Besides what’s a relationship without trust.
